The liquid oral preparations are dosage forms of a drug for administration by oral route.
These preparations are classified as monophasic and polyphasic liquid dosage forms.
Monophasic liquid dosage forms are true or colloidal solutions. The component of the
solution which is present in a large quantity is solvent and the component present in a small
quantity is a solute. Water is commonly used as solvent for majority of monophasic liquid
dosage forms. A solution is homogenous because the solute is in an ionic or molecular form
of subdivision.
